Shaping a label’s identity through liminal aesthetics and hybrid AI-driven collage.
Funnybone Records is a Hartford, CT-based independent label centered on experimental and emerging artists. As Art Director, I led a small team of designers in producing album artwork, identity assets, and promotional materials aligned with the label’s thematic focus on Liminal Space—a visual atmosphere defined by ambiguity, nostalgia, and the uncanny.
I developed a post-modern collage aesthetic that blended lo-fi analog textures with AI-generated StyleGAN footage, creating hybrid promotional videos and motion pieces that felt both familiar and disorienting. This approach allowed each release to inhabit its own visual language while still contributing to a cohesive label identity.
Across projects, I oversaw concept development, design direction, and final execution, shaping a visual system that emphasized experimentation, mood, and emotional resonance. The result was a distinctive, genre-fluid creative framework that elevated the label’s releases and reinforced its reputation for boundary-pushing artistry.
